Community Shout-Out
Hey, everybody!
First, congratulations on doing so well on the GCU Badges Campaign!
By now, everybody’s heard about Phase II and how you can refer your friends to the program. If you didn’t get the email, let me know and I’ll send you a copy. For those who do know, you’ve found out the requirements are a Google PageRank of 1 and to be cached by Google within the last 2 weeks.
How can you tell? Well, you could just submit sites to me and I’ll check for you. However, for the DIY-ers, there are various SEO plug-ins you can get for your browser of choice. Or you could use Google PageRank Checker. And to find out when the site was last cached, just do a Google search. See those light gray chevrons to the right of the site’s name in the results? Hover over that to get a preview of the page. Here you’ll see a Cached link. Clicking on it will bring up the site with an information banner on the top telling you the date the site was last cached by Google. Easy!
So BRING ON the submissions! And if you have any questions, fire away!

Next, I’m going to be spending a little time compiling an Artist’s Resources list. If you’ve got Squidoo lenses, websites and/or blogs containing helpful information for artists, I’d like to add you to the list. Leave a comment on this post with a link to your site. What we’re looking for: sites with information about GCU; tips on photography, illustration and design; color schemes and inspiration; fonts; graphic editing tools and tips; anything else artists would find useful. Bring ’em on!

Finally, tomorrow I’ll be announcing a very special Design Contest + Blog Carnival – it’s going to be a fabulously fun mash-up, and everyone’s invited!

Hi Corrie, are we to put only sites that we have created or any sites that we use for inspiration?
Hmmm… good question. How about both? I can make a couple of different lists.
Corrie
Hi Corrie,
I didn’t receive the e-mail regarding Phase II…unless I was oblivious!
thanks,
Elizabeth
I just forwarded it to you, Elizabeth.

…I didn’t get a chance to participate in the badges campaign (or any creating for that matter) but I’m slowly returning to life…My blog has some useful articles if you want to include it in your list. Here’s the link: http://photographytkdesigns.blogspot.com/
Thanks, Tracie. The campaign is still on-going if you want to participate. Do you need the email? I can forward it to you.
Corrie
Yes, that would be great 🙂 I appreciate it.
Sent you both emails.

Hi Corrie, my website/blog (use either http://www.ilovecuttables.com or ilovecuttables.blogspot.com since they are pretty much the same), and of course my GCU DotD blog (gcu-designoftheday.blogspot.com) which I just found out is ranked a 0/10!!! I’m shocked…although that probably goes a looong way to explain why I haven’t earned any seller commissions (and I should probably stop whining about it in the forum – lol!).
Soooo, I really appreciate the page-ranking link (which I never knew existed), and the tip on finding out when your page was last cached (good to know!); but I’m also wondering if you have suggestions or tools/links/etc on how to get your website/blog/whatever to move up the ranks or cached more often?
Thanks a million, Corrie!!! You never cease to amaze me. 🙂
Cindy
P.S. Hi Tracie! I’ve missed you at the GCU forum, but I can relate to ‘coming back to life.’ I don’t know if it’s a seasonal thing for you, but for years I’ve sort of crawled under a rock from late November until late Jan or early Feb. I think it’s actually winter holiday-related for me (if one can be allergic to certain holidays, then I am)…and once they are over, I too, (slowly) come back to life. I hate it, but after all these years, I’m used to it and I’ve learned to manage it somewhat.
I found 2 links that might help others. When I begin thinking about the work involved in improving one’s page rank, I start to feel overwhelmed. I, like many of you, would prefer to stick with creating art. But here are the suggestions anyhow:
Tips to increase page rank:

And apparently back-links are crucial:

I hope some of my fellow artists can find something useful in the links.

Corrie, I’m sorry I just have my website that has GCU links on it, my designs etc…..Wish I had something for you..

Hi Corrie – Here’s my Resource Blog
http://dogbreedzphotographyresources.wordpress.com/
This year I’m concentrating on Textures. If I make it thru the year, I’ll have a different focus for next year : )-
Peggy, I just checked out your textures blog. Very Cool! I have just discovered how to turn things into a texture that is similar to embossing but yours are awesome! I love the rug back background you applied to the little white boxer. Thanks so much for this. You have a new follower!
