Design Spotlight: Pamela Jorgensen
July 17, 2012
Today’s Design Spotlight shines on Pamela Jorgensen of Pam J Arts who’s been a GCU artist since 2008 – an all around, professional artist who produces great cards!

I grew up in a rural village in the beautiful New Forest in southern England. It was a wonderful inspiring place for an artistic soul with it’s great old oaks, abundant wild flowers, and creatures great and small. My favorite subjects were toadstools, mice and the little colorful birds that visited our garden. I started with colored pencils, then watercolors and in my teens started with oils, then I bought a ‘real’ camera and a whole new vista opened up.
I did not pursue a career in art, but it is a large part of who I am and it has been a part of my life all through the years. I came to America in my twenties, settled here and met my husband through a good friend. He worked in publishing and our first date was actually built around introducing me to an early version of Photoshop on a Mac computer. From this grew two loves, one with my husband and the other with the electronic graphic arts and photo editing.
PamJArts was established in 2008 out of a desire to use some of my art and floral photography in a venture that would allow me to work from home and be mom to our two young daughters. I found Greeting Card Universe and my adventures in creating cards began. Since those early days I have been on a fun and creative journey in photoshop, which has taken me from photo manipulation into creating my own graphics.
My card designs often originate from a funny line or design idea that pops into my head while doing mundane household chores, vacuuming is great creative thinking time. Listen up guys, if you are not doing the vacuuming for your wife you may be missing a great creative opportunity! With an idea in mind, off I go to create an image that conveys it. When I am not doing household chores for inspiration, I find the Wanted Card Requests on the GCU forum equally inspiring … and less physically taxing.
I love my more recent graphics cards, but the one card that has sold on a regular basis is one of my very early cards. It is a photograph of my daughters when they were much younger. It is not the best photographic quality but there is a simple vintage charm captured here, that combined with a simple verse seems to hit the spot with many folks and in a way, it is rather emblematic of my start here at Greeting Card Universe.
I do want to add a huge thank you to Greeting Card Universe for this opportunity and to all the artists I have come to know on the forum. You have all made this venture so much fun!

Pam, I’ve been a fan for quite a while now, so I enjoyed getting to know you a little better! Your cancer encouragement card with the same photo of your two girls on the front has been in my “favorites” for a long time and has been featured a couple of times on my Hope for Cancer blog. Great spotlight, thanks!
Robin

Hi Pam!
Congratulation on being in the design spotlight here on GCU! Your cards are always thoughtfully made and beautiful, and I enjoyed reading your story…although I think I think I knew most of it! Hope you’re enjoying the summer. I’ve been off GCU for a while now, and have been very busy lately with other things, but must get back to it sometime in the near future….glad I happened in here today and saw your card!
All the best, Avis
