Community Challenge: Guest Bloggers

July 12, 2011

Today I’m introducing a new feature that will pop up from time to time: the Community Challenge! How does this work? I’ll issue you a challenge; those who rise to the occasion and participate can win cool prizes. So are you ready? Let’s go!

_________________________

This week’s Community Challenge is Guest Bloggers, and it’s for the blog owners. See that list of Artist Blogs over there on the right side of this page? Pick someone from the list, and ask them to do a guest post on your blog. Could be an interview, tips for designing greeting cards or marketing, their inspirations, their favorite GCU card, their favorite GCU artist, favorite Photoshop (or other graphic editing) tutorials, best photography tips, etc.

If you’re asked to do a guest blog, you’re under no obligation to accept (although I hope you’ll do at least one). And if you ask someone and they decline, choose someone else. Each guest blog post must include links to 3 GCU cards – I’ll leave it to you to decide who picks what.

You can do this, I know you can. I want to see every blog owner on that list participate, so don’t let me down! 🙂

Make a comment on this post with the link to the guest blog to be eligible for the drawing, or send me an email. What’s the prize? A $25 Amazon gift certificate!

Deadline is July 27th, with the master post of links on this site published on July 28th.

You’ve got your mission, and it’s not impossible – good luck!

Corrie,How does someone do a guest blog for you? Is it something you write and then email to the blog owner to post? Sorry, still just not a blog techie!

A blog owner asks you to do a guest blog on, say, your favorite GCU card. You write up the post and send it to them as directed. They publish it on their blog. That’s it! 🙂

Thanks, I guess that is pretty easy. I always think there is some hidden formula that I just don’t have!

How does someone qualify to get their blog listed in the first place? I do have one now as well as Facebook and a website. Sure, all is fairly new but hopefully will grow in time.

To make sure I got it right: linking to the guest blog to be eligible for the drawing, obviously means not mine, but someone I pick?

It goes like this: you have a blog. You invite someone to do a guest post on your blog. The guest post can be about anything but must include links to 3 GCU cards. You publish the post. You make a comment with the link to the post on this thread. You’re eligible for the drawing.

Well, you would be the first that comes up to my mind to invite to do a guest post on my blog, Corrie, but I guess you’re getting more requests 😉

Who wants to talk flowers with me? Since it is summer and flowers are in bloom both wild and cultivated, I thought a chat on flowers and photographing them for usage on cards might be fun… who wants to come along? Maybe several of us can get in on my blog post.

Doreen, if no one else has asked you yet, would you consider doing a guest spot on my blog? If it’s inappropriate for me to do the asking publicly like this, just email me your reply at ilovecuttables@gmail.com. 🙂

      Thanks!
      Cindy

Doreen, I haven’t heard from you (either here or by email), so I’ll cancel my request (you’ll be free to accept someone else’s request – and I can go ahead and ask another blogger–this time by email–before much more time passes). My blog isn’t really focused on photography, so you might not have felt comfortable making a guest appearance there anyhow. I apologize if this (my public request and then canceling of that request) causes any inconvenience.

      Thanks for understanding,
      Cindy

Hello Folks – this week is FLYING by and this challenge comes at a good time. I don’t think I’ll have a new web comic ready for this Friday so I’d be happy to feature one of my fellow GCU artists on my blog but here’s a twist…

Most of my fans and the main subject matter of my blog site are centered around the GLBT community – so – what I’d ask is that you pick your favorite card for that group – talk about the inspiration – doesn’t have to be long.

Now I want to sell your cards so if you can also include a small blurb about how you are connected (or part of) the gay community – it would connect you more with my fans and hopefully that will translate to more sales…and maybe more fans for you and your work.

Featuring other artists’ work is part of Little Rainbow Comics’ mission so this challenge is so awesome.

Send a note if you like: littlerainbowcomics@gmail.com

    Thanks!

I’ve done a new blog post (this is something I need to get used to doing)… but I talked about the significance of flowers and posted some lists of the symbolism behind different types of flowers and colors based on information obtained reading some websites…

    http://sunshinesgreetingcards.blogspot.com/2011/07/say-it-with-flowers.html

I don’t have anyone in particular to ask to guest blog thinking I could open it up to something general – maybe “interview” several folks who might wish to add their two bits on their take on flowers and using them on greeting cards while linking to your cards.

What’s your fave flower? Do you have particular techniques you use when creating cards using flowers? I don’t know… whatever you might wish to talk about on my blog. I would love to compile some information into a page of it’s own.

Thanks Corrie, Please add my blog to the blog master list http://lisacharltongallery.com/BlogPage/ and for Facebook link http://www.facebook.com/people/LisaCharlton/709807377 with thanks. I’m not exactly sure how a guest blogs on my blog (I’m only 2 blogs old) but I’ll look forward to finding out. Cheers, Lisa

    Corrie –

Does the person who we ASK need to be listed on the Blog Roll to the right of this post?

    • GCUAdmin's avatar
      July 15, 2011 6:31 am

They don’t HAVE to be listed in the blog roll, but they should be a GCU artist.

    I’ve done a Guest Blog…now I Need A Guest Blogger, lol.

I am open to Guest Blogging for My Blog….”Send From Site Cards” feel free to email me with your card info. and a bit about your inspirations about the cards you choose…why you like them..and whatever else info. you want to share.

I will also continue to do Guest Blogs…if you would like to keep my address in a safe place, and ever want a bit of free publicity.

However, I can only take one for challenge, so first come first serve.
I think those are Corries Rules, lol.

When I get a Guest Blogger, I’ll let you know so you can move on to find another host.

I’ve tried to contact several artists and was having some trouble. So, I’m just going to post here. Remember, artists are NOT obligated to respond.

As a Greeting Card Universe Artist who is active in the Greeting Card Universe Community Newsletter activities, I am contacting you regarding an interview/guest blog. I am contacting multiple artists and will be compiling the answers.

All you have to do is answer the questions below:

    · Is there specific industry laws, code of ethics, or standard operating procedures that you adhere to when designing or marketing your art and/or photography?
    · How does local or country policies, regulations or codes play into the design of your art or photograph? Please identify the country or region.
    · OPTIONAL: Provide a link to one of your cards as an example to one of your questions above.

The idea behind this blog is raise awareness of the business side of being an artist and/or photographer. While on the surface this sounds like it is geared for photographers there are marketing laws that govern artists that may apply to particular subjects. At least in the U.S. I would really like to here from artists in other countries.

Of course, you are NOT obligated to respond. If you wish to participate please respond with your answer by 7/21/2011. That is 1 week from today.

    Reply to: interviews@sunatnight.com

    Thank you for your time.

I just posted my Guest Blog Post with Photography by TK.

    Welcome

Since I somehow missed out on being notified of posts to this challenge, I unintentionally ignored CindyJ’s invitation and am begging her forgiveness! Thanks for asking CindyJ, I would have loved to participate and certainly did not mean to ignore you!

Don’t worry about it Doreen. A day or so after I had posted the request I went looking for your email address, but wasn’t having a lot of luck where I was looking (probably in all the wrong places – lol). So I just put the retraction here–since there was the other reason, too…that my blog isn’t really a photographer’s blog.

Anyhow, thanks…Janet Lee did a guest blog post for me. 🙂
