Tips and Tricks: Commercial Use Photos

July 17, 2013

Freerange Stock

Our friends at Noupe.com posted an article regarding a somewhat new site called Freerange Stock, a photographic archive. By joining Freerange Stock, you have access to high quality, high resolution photographs that are free for any use, including commercial. If you find the notion interesting, go read the article, visit the site, and decide for yourself.

Caveat: as I’m not an interested party, I haven’t been through the site myself.

At a glance, it seems like members who share their photos also get a share of the site’s AdSense revenue, but you should always, always do a thorough check and make sure you understand all Terms and Conditions before you commit.

(Edited to add: PLEASE CHECK THE COMMENTS on this post to learn why it’s important to read the TOU)

I found this information on the site:
Quote “License Summary: You can do nearly anything with the images, commercial or not. Just don’t redistribute them – this means don’t host the images or repackage them, just post a link to this site and let others sign up download them, just as you did. You cannot offer image for sale, or offer images as part of printed products. (No Zazzle, Cafepress, etc.) For more specific information, read on or contact us.”

So it seems photos on here even though commercial free use cannot be used for GCU cards as well as zazzle etc. as stated.

    Details are on this page:

It is still a pretty good ideas for photographers who might want to upload to the site and make a bit of money through the adsense program. Make sure you read what you need to.

Sounds like a new low in the world of microstock.

Cheryl, I just read the same thing.

“The user can rest assured that there will be no images in a lesser than 2,600 x 1,400 pixels resolution. With almost 4 megapixel at hand, there’s little you cannot do. Restrictions are scarce. You are not allowed to redistribute or similarly use the photos, e.g. not print them on shirts, mugs, posters for sale.”

But as you said, this is a good additional opportunity for photographers to make money from Adsense. Also, you can use these images for your blog or website to reinforce specific topics.

Thanks Corries for sharing this site with the new concept.

I use morguefile.com and a digitaldreamer.com neither has those restrictions. So for the artist side it’s handy. I do try and make a note of where I got them to give to reviewers.
