Nuts and Bolts: New Year, New Focus

January 6, 2017

Nuts & Bolts – New Year, New Focus

Along with the turn of the new year don’t forget to look back on your 2016 body of artistic work and pat yourself on the back.  Go ahead, beam with pride!  At GCU we are beaming with pride too!  With about 50,000 new designs submitted in 2016 there is much to be proud and thankful for.  We thank you!

As you reflect, consider identifying a few things creatively to focus on for 2017.  Here are some ideas that may work their way into your new year resolutions as an artist:

– infuse a new style/trend into your work (pinterest is great eye candy inspiration)
– venturing into new categories or occasions that you’ve avoided
– trying a new color palette each quarter or Pantone’s Pantone’s 2017 color of the year
– working on improving your Artist Notes in old cards to achieve Uniqueness rating
– enter every month’s GCU Design Challenge (you’ve got nothing to lose!)
– start an instagram social media presence under your artist name
– try a Stock Card Creations (BigStock) submission

Whatever it is, find one area of change or improvement that you can embrace and integrate into your work at GCU all year long.

Happy New Year!

The difference is made in the details!

Wanted New Cards: Business Thank You – For your Order / Purchase

Wanted Cards – Business Thank You – For your Order / Purchase

There are many small business owners and virtual shop keepers who thank their shoppers for an order or purchase. This is very common with sites like Etsy, Ebay, Poshmark and more.  Sometimes the difference maker is a special touch and excellent customer service (think rating reviews).  The inclusion of a thank you card with the product ordered adds a personal touch and a chance for the seller to include additional information like their website, a next order discount, a reminder to rate them, etc.

Consider creating cards for this new category that has 1 card:

We’d like you to create at least one card for these categories using the Stock Cards function (Bigstock) or your own graphic designs.

Remember, when you’re submitting your new card, add a little note about the intended category in your Notes to Reviewers. Be inventive,  be clever, be creative. Go for it!

Nuts and Bolts: Dedicate Yourself to the Details

December 30, 2016

Nuts & Bolts – Dedicate Yourself to the Details

Sometimes the obvious is not so obvious.  Maybe you’re in awe of a stunning image, or so focused on balancing the elements in a design or picking just the right font that something quite obvious is well, not so obvious.  A fresh set of eyes or someone who’s a subject matter expert may spy something very important that you don’t.  The review team may catch some of these details, but sometimes shoppers do too.

Here is an excellent example of an edited card by Lisa Crisafi of Nest to Nest Greetings.  So dedicated to the correction and potential sales that not only did they correct it but started from scratch and re-took the photo, recreating the card … in less than 24 hours!

The shopper’s request:
“The guitar face pictured is backwards; the pick guard should be on the other side.  As a guitarist, I would love to order cards with the correct image. Can this be done? Cost? Thank You!”

 nuts-bolts-dedicate-yourself-to-the-details-cfkaatje-gmail-com-gmail

Lisa Crisafi’s lovely holiday guitar design pid#998859 glows with holiday beauty!  Kudos on their commitment to delighting the shopper.  We foresee many guitar loving shoppers “picking” this design next year too!

TIP: When revising a card it is best to Edit the existing card under the same pid# vs creating and submitting a new one.  This retains the card’s order history, exposure and search engine data.  If you’d like the review team to give the updated card a once over simply drop them an email noting the pid#.  See prior post about Change vs New.

The difference is made in the details!

True to the alert rooster, up bright and early and first on the scene, Chinese New Year comes early this year for those of us following the Gregorian calendar – January 28th. Wanted New Cards: New Year’s for Tweens & Teens

Wanted Cards – New Year’s for Tweens & Teens

Think of designs and sentiments that resonate with tweens and teens.  Probably not the same that appeal to adults.  Certainly not popping champagne bottles and toasting glasses.  Their resolutions and what they look forward to in the new year are likely to be quite different too.  And consider the differences for boys vs girls.

Holidays >> New Year’s >> For Tweens & Teens
