Theme: State of Mine

Create a design which is representative of known ‘facts’ such as; state bird, state flower, state landmark or scenic, etc.

Requirements:

  • Use at least 3 elements which are representative of the state you live in – if living outside of the  United States, the land, province, country or equivalent works perfectly too.
  • Imagery must be included for the three elements.
  • Your card’s message, text/verse must also speak to an appropriate category – blank cards will be disqualified.

Important Notes:

  • If you choose to use a quote it must be written before 1923 thus in Public Domain or from unknown author. As with the use of 3rd party elements, be sure to include a link to where the quote shows public domain status. A quote is not a requirement of this challenge.
  • We caution you against using emblems, flags, landmarks and symbols which may have Intellectual Property ties.

    Doreen,

My submission this month is for the state of Texas. I’ve been looking for something to use my armadillo graphic for. LOL

Hi Doreen. I am from Singapore. Though there are a lot of iconic landmarks here that I can snap a photo of, I’m afraid these landmarks may be under Intellectual Property and I don’t want to get in trouble with the Government 🙂 Would it be okay to use photographs of traditional dishes here instead?

    • June 9, 2016 2:40 pm

Hello, Joy. You’re right, landmarks like that would have IP issues. Here’s the thing, this challenge is about doing a little research about where you live and finding out for example that Singapore’s bird is the Crimson Sunbird, your flower is the Orchid, you even have the Singapura cat as your animal. So in order to meet the requirements of this challenge, using only traditional dishes would not be enough. These challenges are all about exploring and pushing yourself to try something new and different, maybe this challenge will do that for you. Hope that helps get you inspired!

Thanks Doreen. I’ll come up with something, hopefully before the month ends 🙂

    Greetings, Doreen,

    My entry, PID 1439726: http://www.greetingcarduniverse.com/collections/places-and-cities/us-states/delaware/greetings-from-delaware-the-first-1439726?aid=179654

West coast, south central, midwest, and east coast – now, mid-Atlantic: it seems we have holes in the plains, the south, and the Pacific Northwest.

So, let’s see, from Delaware, I’ll drive straight up to Massachusetts (the only one of these states which I’ve never visited 😦 ), and then back over to New York (nice flavor of the city and upstate in those two cards!). Then my drive dips slightly south under the Great Lakes and to the west to find myself in Illinois (windy city and pretty countryside), after which I’ll be wandering to the south central US and land back in Texas (Nothing Strikes Back ice cream and Armadillo World Headquarters are no more, but must see UT, Big Bend, and 6th Street again!); then straight out toward the west coast to visit those California wineries someone mentioned. Hmm, now is the time to head to LAX for an aeroplane ride to Singapore, another place I’ve never had the good fortune to explore.

    Christi
