A Quick Clarification About “The Card That Fights Back”

October 15, 2026

It seems our recent two-part blog series, The Card That Fights Back, has caused a little confusion, so let’s clear that up!

GCU artists still cannot add images or illustrations to the inside of their cards. That hasn’t changed.

The idea behind The Card That Fights Back is to use the front illustration to set up the joke and the inside text to deliver the punchline. The humor comes from the unexpected twist in the wording, not from additional artwork inside the card.

Here’s a simple example:

Card Front: An illustration of a grumpy cat wearing a Santa hat, sitting beside a beautifully decorated Christmas tree.

Front text: “Wishing You a Peaceful Christmas!”

Card Inside (text only):

“Peaceful? Absolutely. As long as you meet my demands: more treats, fewer visitors, unlimited access to the Christmas tree, and the immediate removal of the dog.

Love, The Cat”

The illustration establishes the character and the situation. The inside text delivers the surprise. No additional artwork needed!

The illustrations accompanying our blog posts were created to help visualize the concepts and inspire your creativity. They are not examples of actual GCU card layouts or available design features.

Customers can still add their own personal images inside cards when ordering, but this option is not available to artists creating card designs.

Sorry for any confusion! And please don’t let this discourage you from experimenting with the idea. Sometimes the funniest punchline needs nothing more than a few well-chosen words! 😊

Happy Designing!
