Wanted Cards – Money / Gift Card Enclosed

It is very common for money or a gift card to be given in lieu of a physical gift. The beauty is one size fits all!  Especially for occasions like quinceanera, bar mitzvah / bat mitzvah, Chinese New Year, graduation and baptism & christening. Although GCU cards do not have a special fold or pocket to hold the money or gift card, shoppers are certain to find the perfect card for their special occasion.
Please consider creating new Money / Gift Card Enclosed cards for these categories in need of cards:

NOTE: please be sure to include a note like the following in your Artist’s Notes that serves as a product description and properly sets the shoppers’ expectations:
“A regular card with no interior flap but which will still hold a Bar Mitzvah monetary present perfectly”

Inspiration Station: Bible Inspiration.

Inspiration Station: Bible Inspiration (originally posted in 2015).

Many categories lend themselves to religious cards with Bible verses such as Get Well, Congratulations, Sympathy and others. If you’re looking for inspiration, check out Pinterest – a fantastic resource. One caveat you should heed: not all Bible translations are in the public domain. Some are copyrighted. If you find a verse you like, be sure you use a non-copyrighted version of the Bible (such as the King James) in your designs. Use your own judgment as to which verse will be most appropriate and relevant for your intentions.

Dash of Inspiration: November 2019 Design Challenge

November 1, 2019
  • DashInspirationBanner_2015

Hello everyone! Hard to believe this is the last challenge of the year! Let’s try something new and creative this month – my apologies for not having an example prepared, but I was without electricity more days in October than I was with power, so I’m behind in all things. Now for something completely different. Are you up for the challenge?

……………………………………………………………

Theme: Fusion Design

Requirements:

  • Create a brand new design by choosing at least two objects from the list of eight objects below and creating a greeting card design. You may use more than two, all of them, or add additional items, including people and animals – but a minimum of two from the list must be clearly visible and important elements in the overall card design and message.

a musical instrument – a fishbowl – a book – eyeglasses/sunglasses – a feather – a seashell – a mask – a piece of fruit

  • Write your own verse/message, be creative and write a message that clearly speaks to your imagery, occasion and recipient.
  • Blank verse will not be considered for entry in this challenge.

……………………………………………………………

Entry Deadline: Saturday, November  30th

……………………………………………………………

How to Enter: Post the PID (card number) and the URL (public storefront link – please WAIT for the card to be available in the public marketplace, please DO NOT post a link to your Manage Cards area) as a post in the challenge blog. We’ll forward your entry to the jury.

……………………………………………………………….

Category:

  • Any category well-suited to the imagery/occasion/message.

…………………………………………………………….

  • Only ONE card per artist per challenge.
  • Submissions must be NEW, no existing designs.
  • Your entry must meet the Challenge Requirements and Theme or it will not be included in the challenge.
  • Stock Card Creations entries will not be accepted.
  • Your designs should differ from those already offered in the category of your choice to offer shoppers a variety of choices, not more of the same.

……………………………………………………………………

BLIND Judging: We hope each of you enters every month. Entries are submitted anonymously for judging by the GCU Challenge Jury which means that before and during the challenge, judges do not have any way of knowing what artist is behind each entry. This eliminates any and all concerns with ‘favoritism’. Results will post on the Community Blog. The jury will judge the entries on the following criteria:

  • How well the card meets the Challenge Requirements and Theme.
  • How well the card speaks to the Category the artist chooses for the card submission.
  • Creativity, Execution and Marketability.

Nuts and Bolts: Stock Card Creations Unmatched Image.

November 1, 2019

Nuts & Bolts – Stock Card Creations Unmatched Image

As I continue to update some of my own Stock Card Creation cards that had unmatched images, I’d like to share some before and after images.

Don’t be discouraged if at first you do not find a near identical image. If you explore enough and try different search terms you will find an image that will work and may even be a breath of fresh air.

BEFORE:

NEW STOCK IMAGE:
NOTE: A few tips to make things easier:

– After updating the image and card you are brought back to the Manage Cards page, often not to the card you were working on.  Beforehand, simply write down or paste on a notepad the pid# of the card you’re working on and if you are not brought right back to it in Manage Cards enter the pid# in the “Find Specific Cards by: Product ID” box on the left. This brings you to the card to click the all important orange RESUBMIT button.

– If the stock image you choose is a different orientation than the original image that’s ok.  One little oddity is the inside verse image will show in the old orientation.  Use the orange button “Save and Edit Inside Verse” to correct this, simply click on the inside text image box (as if you’re going to edit the text) and click the orange button “Save” and it will correct itself.

– When updating a series and using the same new stock image, be sure to note the new stock image id.  When updating the image for the balance of the series simply enter this stock image id into the search box to locate the image quickly vs search terms and re-searching for the desired image.

– Lastly, I add the following comment at the end of my Notes to Reviewer “updated with new stock image”.

Wanted New Cards: Thinking of You – Natural Disaster.

October 24, 2019

Wanted Cards: Thinking of You – Natural Disaster

Like a death or illness, the occurrence of a serious accident or natural disaster is one in which you are thinking of friends & family impacted but simply don’t know what to say.  So nothing is said, which can be even worse.

Thinking of you cards can drop a thoughtful little note of care and concern.

This new category and subcategories are in need of cards:
>> General Natural Disaster
>> Blizzard / Snowstorm / Ice Storm
>> Drought
>> Earthquake
>> Fire / Wildfire
>> Flood
>> Heat Wave
>> Hurricane
>> Thunderstorm / Hailstorm
>> Tornado
>> Other Natural Disaster
Before you jump into designing mode, be aware that this is a topic requiring sensitivity on your part. Some research will be required to ensure you set the right tone in image and verse.

Here is an interesting read from a grief expert on what to say (and not to say) after a disaster / catastrophe.

We’d like you to create at least one card for these categories using the Stock Cards function (Bigstock) or your own graphic designs.

Remember, when you’re submitting your new card, add a little note about the intended category in your Notes to Reviewers. Be inventive,  be clever, be creative. Go for it!
