Wanted New Cards: Retirement K9 Unit / Police Dog

Wanted Cards – Retirement K9 Unit / Police Dog

Police dogs risk their lives to help and protect law enforcement personnel. Their varied duties include locating criminals, searching for explosives and drugs, search and rescue, and sniffing out crime scene evidence.

When their years of active service come to an end, just like people, it’s time for retirement. It’s a day that can be quite sentimental for the dog’s coworkers, department and handler.  There is often a public retirement ceremony for the community.
Please consider creating cards for this new category:
NOTE: consider photo cards, custom front text cards and as not all police dogs are German Shepherds, choices of other breeds.

Nuts and Bolts: Music Themed Cards.

Nuts & Bolts – Music Themed Cards

Shopping on the internet is so convenient, but it can be tricky.  You have to rely on product photos, item descriptions, measurements, and reviews to make sure you know exactly what to expect. And sometimes what you see, or think you see, is not what you get.

It may seem that GCU goes overboard describing elements of a card’s design, but there is good cause for it. Here is another example. Quite often a music themed greeting card has been assumed by the shopper to be a musical card that actually plays music. Musical cards are a thing so it’s not so far fetched but they are not offered on GCU.

So if you have a music themed card (song lyrics or characters that look like or are described to be “singing”) please be very clear in your Artist’s Notes with a statement like this: “This is NOT a musical card, it does NOT play music”.  This is especially important if you use musical notes in your design as shown below.

Wanted Cards – Birthday Photo Cards for My Twin

These categories could use some non-age specific photo card designs.
My Twin Sister or My Twin Brother photo cards (not age specific) as well as for general birthday photo cards for My Twin.

The second fitting catch-all category for these cards would be:
Collections » Photo Cards / Your Picture Here » Birthday
Remember twins come in different combinations that can be addressed in the design or verse – fraternal or identical, twin sisters, twin brothers, twin brother & sister.

Nuts and Bolts: Dedicate Yourself to the Details.

Nuts & Bolts – Dedicate Yourself to the Details

It is often the little details that escape the artist’s eye. It is always a good idea to step away from a design that you have been meticulously working on or ask a brutally honest companion to give it a once over.  The review team is certainly a fresh set of eyes and often catches tiny fixes or areas of improvement.  GCU is grateful for artists who are open to collaborating with the reviewers on minor adjustments that make a big difference.

Reviewer’s Request for Edits:
Please remove the frame.  Please remove the flare in the upper right side as this may be perceived as a print error.  Please choose a different font style as Scriptina font has kerning issues especially with the word sympathy.  Please clone out the blurry stem on the left side as it distracts from the delicate flower.

Thank you to GCU artist, Melinda Pritzel of Yowzers, for her adept edits and collaborating with our review team to create a WOW submission.

Dash of Inspiration: Big Stock ONLY Design Challenge JUNE 2019

June 1, 2019

DashInspirationBanner_2015

Stock Card Challenges are back!  Over the years I’ve always been intrigued and fascinated by Steampunk images – but – I never knew anything about this genre, therefore never attempted to create artwork representative of this science fiction/fantasy world. What better way to explore than a stock card challenge?

………………………………………

Theme: Steampunk

Requirements:

  • ONLY Big Stock cards will be accepted in this challenge.
  • Write your own verse, be creative with a message that ties the steampunk concept, image you choose,  and the category together  – this will be extremely important in this challenge.
  • The judges will be looking for professional quality text layout, typography placement and font combinations in addition to a unique and captivating message that tells the story of the stock image you choose. Your added value needs to wow the judges!

……………………………………

Entry Deadline: Sunday, June 30th

…………………………………..

How to Enter: Post the PID (card number) and the URL (public storefront link – please WAIT for the card to be available in the public marketplace, please DO NOT post a link to your Manage Cards area) as a post in the challenge blog. We’ll forward your entry to the jury.

NOTE: Submissions will appear immediately in your Private gallery as they await review.  If approved, the reviewer will move them to the public gallery – they will then become ‘live’ in the marketplace within 24-hours or so just like regular submissions. Be patient and wait.
…………………………………

CATEGORY SPECIFIC CHALLENGE:  Steampunk Birthday

…………………………………

Rules:

  • Submission must meet GCU’s Submission Guidelines and be Approved through the usual Review Cycle. Big Stock creations are automatically identified as Fast Track – please add in the Notes to Reviewer: JUNE Design Challenge Submission here is the link to the blog post: (include THIS blog post URL)
  • Only ONE card per artist per challenge.
  • Submissions must be NEW, no existing designs.
  • Your entry must meet the Challenge Requirements and Theme or it will not be included in the challenge.
  • Big Stock Card Creations ONLY will be accepted.
  • Your designs should differ from those already offered in the categories above to offer shoppers a variety of choices, not more of the same.
  • No BLANK cards will be accepted.

……………………………….

BLIND Judging: We hope each of you enters every month! Entries are submitted anonymously for judging by the GCU Challenge Jury which means that before and during the challenge, judges do not have any way of knowing what artist is behind each entry. This eliminates any and all concerns with ‘favoritism’. Results will post on the Community Blog. The jury will judge the entries on the following criteria:

  • How well the card meets the Challenge Requirements and Theme.
  • How well the card speaks to the Category the artist chooses for the card submission.
  • Creativity, Execution and Marketability. Your overall ‘added value’ determines this.
