Wanted New Cards: Christmas – Animals / Pets – Wildlife

Wanted new Cards: Christmas – Animals / Pets – Wildlife

We have a sub category that needs new cards:

Christmas cards featuring family photos are currently the most popular holiday cards. If you don’t have children the family pet is just as good.  What if you don’t have a dog or a cat?  Something more exotic perhaps.

How about the family otter?!  Ok, maybe not the family pet but there are otter fans out there and one of them has come to GCU for help.

“GCU, I need a North American river otter (also known as the common otter) Christmas card for the staff that care for the otters at an aquarium. Help please!”

We’d like you to create at least one card for these categories using the Stock Cards function (Bigstock) or your own graphic designs.

Remember, when you’re submitting your new card, add a little note about the intended category in your Notes to Reviewers. Be inventive,  be clever, be creative. Go for it!

Nuts and Bolts: Design for Business Logos

October 7, 2016

Nuts & Bolts – Design for Business Logos

Businesses love to personalize cards with their logos.  It is a great way to strengthen their brand and show employees, clients and customers that they have taken the extra time and attention to send a personalized card.

GCU offers businesses the ability to include their logo on the inside of any card, just like a shopper would include a photo on the inside.  This is very popular and is a no-charge feature on GCU.  It really adds a personal touch.

How do you create a design for a logo?
It’s just like creating a photo card.  Your design should allow a space and transparent area where the logo would be placed.  This can be tricky since all logos are not created equal and may be of different shapes, sizes and orientations.

When you submit your photo to GCU, in the create a card step, after defining the transparent photo area, you will be able to select a “your logo here” placeholder image (vs a placeholder photo).

See this example by Penny Cork:

TIP: add a note to the shopper in your Artist Notes that if their logo is not a perfect fit in the space you’ve allowed in your design you are happy to make a custom card and place the logo in the design for them.  To do so they should use the Request a Design Change option at which time they can include their logo file.

If you get a Design Change request to include the logo in the cover design, this card of course would be uploaded to your Private gallery.

The difference is made in the details!

wanted new cards head

We have a new category that needs a special touch:

We seem to hurt the ones we love the most including our friends.  Hurtful gossip, an unreturned text message, a simple misunderstanding or worse, a sincere apology can go a long way in mending a broken friendship.

This eliminates any and all concerns with ‘favoritism’. Results will post on the Community Blog. The jury will judge the entries on the following criteria:

  • How well the card meets the Challenge Requirements and Theme.
  • How well the card speaks to the Category the artist chooses for the card submission.
  • Creativity, Execution and Marketability.

Nuts and Bolts: Last Day September’s Design Challenge Entries

September 30, 2016

Nuts & Bolts – Last Day September’s Design Challenge Entries

Today is the last day to enter September’s Design Challenge.  Don’t miss out on the fun and good-hearted competition.  It’s a great opportunity to create a wonderful new card for the upcoming holiday!  Christmas holiday cards are already selling!

This month’s theme, Jingle Bells, is pretty straight forward:
  • Must be approved for the Holidays > Christmas Cards > Bells / Jingle Bells / Sleigh Bells category.
  • Recipient must be ‘general’, in other words; any relation-specific creations should be done after the challenge – not for the challenge.
  • Imagery must include at least one bell of the ‘sleigh bells and/or jingle bell’ variety. Other bells in the image okay too, but the “Jingle Bell” must be prominently represented.

A few tips:
1. to enter post your card product id number (pid#) and the direct URL to your card to the post linked above.  The URL link to the card should be the link from the public gallery, NOT a link to your card from within your Manage Cards page.
2. be sure to FastTrack your submission and include in the Notes to Reviewer “sept design challenge submission” so the review team knows to be as expedient as possible.
3. before designing your card be sure to take a peek at what’s already offered on GCU for “Christmas jingle bells” and create something DIFFERENT, not more of the same.

Hope to see your card in the judging, I’ll be there with bells on!

The difference is made in the details!
