Rainbow Connection: Tulips bring Spring!

April 16, 2019

Tulips form a genus of spring-blooming perennial herbaceous bulbiferous geophytes. The flowers are usually large, showy and brightly coloured, generally red, pink, yellow, or white. They often have a different coloured blotch at the base of the tepals, internally.

The meaning of tulips is generally perfect love . Like many flowers, different colors of tulips also often carry their own significance. Red tulips are most strongly associated with true love, while purple symbolizes royalty.

Nuts & Bolts – Give Your Low to No Sellers a Facelift

Do you have some cards that have been hanging around for a while with low to no sales? Putting a fresh touch on low performing cards that you’re not 100% happy with is a good idea.
Here is a recently updated card by GCU artist Stephanie Laird:

Here are some tips:
https://gcucommunity.com/2013/10/01/tips-and-tricks-updating-old-card-designs/

And a helpful posting on when to edit an existing card vs starting from scratch:

TIP: Changing the image of an approved card does carry some risk as the review team does not give it a once over.  If you are changing images on approved cards you are welcome to send an email to the review team with a list of pid#s and ask them for a review.  A second set of eyes never hurts.  If intending to update a like-image collection we suggest you update only one card first and have the review team give it a review before proceeding with the balance.  This will save you time and grief in case your edits to not meet the Submission Guidelines.

Wanted New Cards: Beddian and Golden Birthdays

Wanted Cards – Beddian and Golden Birthdays

There are many novel and auspicious dates.  One of which for a birthday is called a Beddian Birthday, which simply means turning the same age as the last two digits of your birth year. So if you were born in 1967 it’s the year you turn 67 (which would be 2034).  You on only have one beddian birthday.
So what if you were born in 2000?  Not much to look forward to as you’ve reached your beddian birthday on the actual day of your birth (age 0).

Similarly there are Golden or Champagne birthdays which is turning the same age as the numeric day of your birthday. So if you were born on the 12th, it’s the year you turn 12. You only have one golden birthday as well.

To add more choices and variety for shoppers, please consider adding new cards to both of these categories.  Your submissions can be generic or age/date specific.

The cards will go in the appropriate sub-category here:

These are ideal occasions for custom front text designs allowing the shopper to personalize with their desired age and date.

Rainbow Connection: Blue is The Coolest Color

April 9, 2019

Blue is the coolest color – the color of the sky, ocean, sleep, twilight. The ancient Egyptians used lapis lazuli to represent heaven. Blue symbolizes the Virgin Mary. A pure blue is the color of inspiration, sincerity and spirituality. Blue is often the chosen color by conservative people. Blue is the calming color. That makes it a wonderful color to use in the home, especially for babies. Blue is so soothing that is a good choice for pajamas. Dark blue is the color of truth and moderation. A blue iris means your friendship is very important to me. Wednesday’s color is blue. Blue gemstones to wear to feel calm are blue sapphire and blue topaz. Lapis lazuli and azurite are said to heighten psychic power.

Wanted Cards – Joyeuses Fêtes

GCU allows for variations in terminology and greetings to meet different shoppers’ needs.  For example, Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, Season’s Greetings are very common variations in English.

In French, apparently there are similar variations.  See this request from a shopper for French Christmas cards:
“French holiday card options. I see that most of the French options say Joyeux Noel on the front of the card. Can we have some cards with Joyeuses Fêtes?”
These cards will be found here:

Please be sure to use care when using foreign characters in the inside verse that may note be supported, see here:

And it’s important to add an English translation in the Artist’s Notes.
