Nuts and Bolts: PayPal Payment Method

February 23, 2018

Nuts & Bolts – PayPal Payment Method

There is only one day that trumps payday. The day you actually receive your pay! GCU pays artists on a quarterly basis (payments are issued within 30 days after the end of each quarter). GCU sends artists’ payments via mailed check or PayPal. GCU strongly encourages artists to set-up a PayPal account and set their preferred Payment Method in their GCU account to PayPal for a handful of reasons:

1. no transaction fees (GCU pays them)
2. instantaneous receipt
3. online deposit – transfer your funds directly to your financial institution
4. avoid mailing address & deliver errors
5. natural disasters – rain, wind, sleet, spilled wine … we’ve seen it all. Some checks take the scenic route, really take a beating needing to be re-issued (means you have to wait even longer)

See this related post about earnings and payments.

Note: if you are puzzled why you have not received your payment via PayPal, double check in your GCU Account Information that you entered your PayPal account email address correctly.  Also, this sounds so simple but it’s worth saying, you MUST set up a PayPal account in order to receive payments.

The difference is made in the details!

Wanted New Cards: Thinking of You Bereaved.

Wanted Cards – Thinking of You Bereaved

There is no time limit on grieving the loss of a loved one.  It’s a lifelong process that hopefully gets easier over time, but the grief never goes away.
Please consider creating some new cards for the following category:

These are NOT sympathy cards but general thinking of you cards for someone who is grieving the loss of a loved one, no matter how much time has passed.  These are also NOT holiday or occasion specific cards as those are served by categories like Holidays >> Christmas >> In Remembrance.

We’d like you to create at least one card for these categories using the Stock Cards function (Bigstock) or your own graphic designs.

Remember, when you’re submitting your new card, add a little note about the intended category in your Notes to Reviewers. Be inventive,  be clever, be creative. Go for it!

Nuts and Bolts: Sort by Notes Uniqueness.

February 16, 2018

Nuts & Bolts – Sort by Notes Uniqueness

We’ve shared before the importance of unique Artist’s Notes for each card. This field serves as a product description and should be different for each card. In general, it can be challenging to create unique and creative notes and quite honestly it can be downright mind numbing to do so for a like image series of cards.

With our recent guest post, Storewide Facelift by GCU artist Doreen Erhardt which detailed her complete once over of each and every card in her store including fine-tuning the Artist’s Notes, Doreen shared with GCU that it was quite cumbersome to locate the cards rated Not Unique.

We are happy to announce a new “Sort by” filter in artist’s Manage Cards page!  It’s located in the left hand margin under Find Specific Cards as “By Uniqueness:”.

This will allow you to sort for Very Unique, Unique, Not Unique cards.  So easy now to quickly identify your cards with red or yellow thumbs and craft new descriptions to boost their exposure.
Thank you, Doreen, for the excellent feedback!  Inline image 4

The uniqueness is literally the difference between your card getting exposure outside of GCU or not.  Exposure means visibility and visibility means sales.   If you’ve seen your sales drop since this was announced and have not made improvements to your Artist’s Notes this is probably the reason why.

Here are some good reads on Artist’s Notes:

Note: another important item to include in your Artist’s Notes is an English translation for Non-English cards.

Nuts and Bolts: Best of 2017 Feature Page

February 9, 2018

Nuts & Bolts – Best of 2017 Feature Page

In January, GCU proudly announced the Best of 2017 Founders’ Choice Award winners!  See all the winners here on their very own landing page which will soon be linked from the site and shared via social media.

This was GCU’s third annual “Best of” awards as part of the monthly Design Challenge series.  Be sure to check each month’s challenge as it may be a perfect opportunity for you to submit a design that’s been on your mind, or something totally new getting you outside of your comfort zone or overcoming artist’s block.

Design Challenges are run each month and announced on both the GCU community blog and GCU forum.  There is plenty of time to enter February’s challenge, see details here.

Tip: for a design challenge, and any new card for that matter, take a look at what is currently offered in the category and do a little brainstorming to offer something DIFFERENT not just more of the same. This will help your card stand out from the crowd and offer shoppers more choices, and ultimately sales!

Wanted New Cards: Doctors’ Day

Wanted Cards – Doctors’ Day

It is common with many of the big holidays and occupational holidays for companies / businesses to place larger orders to send to their employees, clients, customers.  These business shoppers often, and hopefully, return to GCU year after year for the same occasion.  It’s important for GCU to be able to offer them fresh designs in the category each year.

Please consider creating new designs for this category.

TIP: before creating new designs for an existing category that may seem to be crowded or saturated, please take some time to peruse what is currently being offered in style, image, message and offer something DIFFERENT.

We’d like you to create at least one card for these categories using the Stock Cards function (Bigstock) or your own graphic designs.

Remember, when you’re submitting your new card, add a little note about the intended category in your Notes to Reviewers. Be inventive,  be clever, be creative. Go for it!
